Bath Time

So, hubs has been gone for a week. One week down and two to go until he is done with his job training that is far away.  He was on 12-14 hours graveyard shifts for the first 6 months of our new parenthood, so I am used to solo parenting, to a degree. I would, however, get breaks. And relaxing showers. And sometimes a nap. But where I am seeing the biggest impact is bath time. On the nights he is home, (which will be all the time with his new position Yay!) he is charge of the actual bathing at bath time. I get the bath ready while he undresses Spencer and keeps him occupied, then hubs does the bath and I do the drying, diapering and pajamaing. I am not as good as our team when I try and do this solo. It isn’t helping matters that Spencer, in the last few weeks, has begun to fuss and struggle a bit when it is diaper and pajama time. I’m not sure if he is sad his bath is over, doesn’t like the towel rubbing or just would rather stay naked. So tonight I tried a song. It was awful; l can’t carry a tune to save me life, but he seemed to like it. Fussing was kept to a minimum and the boy was dry and dressed in record time. I think it might be some sort of mom right-of-passage, the narrative song. I thought I would record it here in all its awesome glory.

Drying off Spencer (to the tune of the camp song Peanut butter and Jelly, in the key of off)

First you take the baby and you dry him, you dry him
First you take the baby and you dry hm, you dry him
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Then you take the footie and you smooch it, you smooch it
Then you take the footie and you smooch it, you smooch it
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Then you take the lotion and you rub it, you rub it
Then you take the lotion and you rub it, you rub it
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Then you take the diaper and you snap it, you snap it
Then you take the diaper and you snap it, you snap it
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Then you take the belly and you kiss it, you kiss it
Then you take the belly and you kiss it, you kiss it
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Then you take the cover and you snap it, you snap it
Then you take the cover and you snap it, you snap it
Drying, Drying off Spencer
Drying, Drying off Spencer

And so on and so on on through more kisses and his jammies and his sleep sack and some hugs and ending with a verse about boobs of questionable propriety. And since you made it this far, a treat for you! A picture of bath time!

Mmmm. That's some good rubber duckie.
