Party Planning

I need to start thinking about Spencer’s first birthday party. I’m thinking it will be a smallish affair, family and some friends. Most likely a barbecue of some sort, probably featuring my father-in-law’s awesome cooking. We did tri-tip for my shower, maybe it should be churri-pan. That is pretty easy, just grill some sausages and toast some bread. Mmm, with his delicious, and very secret, chimi churri spread all over the bread. Yum. And now I am hungry.

As for a theme, I am torn between picking a theme and running with it or keeping it simple with a banner and a few balloons.  Spencer is a Leo and has acquired quite a few lion items, I could do a lion or safari themed party. My sister and I set the bar pretty high for bad pun themed parties – my shower was a boy-b-que. I’m not sure if I can top that – Spencer’s turning one and we’re not lion – is pretty bad. That might do. Hmm..

My husband puts in for his schedule over a month in advance, so deciding what date we need for our July party needs to happen before the end of May. There are all sorts of strange factors in play, including other birthdays in close proximity, out of town guests and summer vacations. I guess I need to just pick a day and stick with it.

I love the lion idea and that pun isn’t cheesy at all – it’s adorable! Safari themed stuff was really easy to find. I ended up using a bunch of it for the circus party. A few balloons and some printed napkins go a long way towards a 1st birthday party.
