Travels with Baby: Lessons Learned

  • Change the baby’s diaper every time you stop the car, even if you just changed it 1oo miles before.
  • Bring a lot of toys for the car and then add a few more.
  • Hotel carpet is disgusting.
  • Adding a sock to a toy can turn it in to a whole new toy.
  • A baby will start crying at the most inconvenient times, like when you are driving over a bridge in gusty wind surrounded by big trucks.
  • Unless your bladder is going to explode or you are going to run out of gas, don’t stop the car when the baby is sleeping.
  • People will ash their cigarettes on your baby in a stroller. No joke. Happened more than once.

We’ll be applying these to the Colorado trip. We leave in a week. Yikes.

My bladder is huge so not stopping to pee is NO PROBLEM if the baby is sleeping. Unfortunately, E has no such bladder and always picks the WORST MOMENTS to decide he absolutely has to make a bathroom stop – like when Baby Evan has finally fallen to sleep after 45 minutes of screaming. Next time we take a 500+ mile trip I’m going to start making him pee in a bottle or something.

HAHA! I love it! Great lessons and oh so true :) I totally agree with the potty stops (adults and babies included). I have the worst bladder and kids that WILL wake up if the car slows down. Thinking about bringing adult diapers but I’d never admit it ;)

Good luck on the next trip!

I’ll have lessons learned while flying up soon.
