Welcome to the World: Soup or Salad Blog

I have been wanted to do a food blog since I found out that blogs existed, although I am very glad they have never been shortened to fblogs. I just never started one and then I worked a job 60 hours a week and my husband schedule was such that we only overlapped for 2 dinners a week, maybe. And most of our shared meals were breakfast, which I prefer out. So, I didn’t feel like I was cooking enough to provide content for a dedicated food blog. Then, this summer, during an IM conversation with my good friend Jody, the idea for a blog focusing primarily on soup and salad was formed.

I was busy with Spencer and this blog and Jody was readying her family for a move to another continent, so we took the planning slow, bought the name, had the lovely Sarah design our pretty header and do some techie work and then slowly we started getting some recipes up. And what better week than the week before Thanksgiving for our official launch, with a bunch of recipes for using up your leftover turkey.

So, I give you Soup or Salad Blog! And we are kicking off Turkey Week with a fantastic and super easy Turkey Chili Verde.

I do hope you will join me over there. Also, we are planning to feature tons of guest bloggers, so if you are interested you can contact me.  It doesn’t need to be original content for the site. We’d be happy to showcase a soup or salad you have blogged about on your own blog.

***Giveaway is now closed and the winner was Amanda! (comment 8)***

In order to celebrate, I am going to do a few giveaways this week, at least two, three if I can get it together in time.  So, today, I am giving away a fantastic Blue FuzziBuns Perfect Fit Diaper in Medium. If you don’t cloth diaper, it would be a great gift for a friend that does.

Four (!) ways to enter, leave a separate comment on this post for each:

  1. Go to Soup or Salad Blog, look around a bit and tell me what you think, about the content or site design or how we could make it better.
  2. Tell me your favorite soup or salad
  3. Follow Soup or Salad Blog on Twitter
  4. Tweet the following (once): WooHoo! Celebrating the launch of @SoupOrSaladBlog with a #clothdiapers giveaway: http://bit.ly/8Yw6cR

A winner will be selected 11/21. Contest is open to US addresses only. FuzziBunz did not sponsor this giveaway or give me the diaper for this purpose. I won this diaper at a Twitter party and since I seem to win a lot of diapers, I thought I would share the wealth. The diaper is brand new and in the original packaging.

Wow! I can’t believe how many recipes you guys already have posted. So proud of you!

Also, this is the PERFECT day for your launch because it’s meal-planning day for me and I was dreading putting “taco salad” and “pizza” on the list again. Now I’m going to do corn chowder instead. LOVE corn chowder.

    Congrats Amy & Jody!!

My favorite salad is a pasta salad my family simply calls “THE Pasta Salad” that came from a community cookbook when I was little. It’s better in the summer (cold pasta salad always is) but it’s delicious ALL the time. I should email you the recipe.

I tweeted! Also, I think a cloth diaper is a kind of hilarious giveaway for a blog devoted to such a fiber-rich diet. But maybe I just have the sense of humor of a 10-year-old.

Me too! I was hoping peeps would find the humor and not just think it was gross.

So, a picture of the finished product or pictures as you go along? We are trying to get pictures up for all of them. Most have them.

The favorite salad that is made around here the most often is my husband’s family taco salad recipe.
Ground beef, lettuce, Catalina dressing, beans in chili sauce, cheese. My husband can’t get enough of this stuff, he likes it cold and also warm.

CORN CHOWDER!! I was craving some yesterday and I am definitely going to try your recipe.

My one bit of advice would be to add more contrast between the blog title and background. It is super cute with the lettuce but a bit difficult to read.

I LOVE my own recipe for a chicken & beans salad. After giving birth to my daughter I was served a wonderful salad with black and kidney beans. Now I add them to my salad along with chicken and few other key items.

hmm, maybe I will post about it and send you a copy for SorS??

  28. Love the idea! and cute name :) I’m a terrible cook unless I have a recipe so I’m excited to follow this blog, glad to see the email subscribe option (a lot of blogs forget to add that!) The only other thing I’d say is add some color? Or maybe change the font of post titles? Just to add a little something ;)

  32. I am loving the Soup or Salad blog! It looks great! I am definitely a “need to see the picture before using the recipe” kind of gal, so I loved the pics that were included in some of them. My only suggestion (if I must) is to possibly include more pictures. I really think it looks great!

Ok, so instead I clicked the RSS button to subscribe that way and it’s not working. It takes me to the feed page (a bunch of letters) rather than the subscribe options. You can email me for help if you need it ;) erdickey at gmail dot com))
