A little under the weather

Spencer is sick. We wavered on Monday on whether it was teething or a cold, but by Wednesday, it was a full blown cold for sure. He is in relatively good spirits, but very, very snotty. In fact, I’ve been referring to him as Senor Snotface so often he is starting to respond to it. There isn’t much you can do for a toddler with a cold, we’ve been keeping him hydrated and as rested as we can, but he isn’t sleeping too well.

Sick Spencer means seeing a lot more of this face than a happy face.

I am not so handy with the bulb suction thingamajig and it always makes Spencer scream. He starts screaming when he sees it in my hand. And who makes their baby scream? Not me, especially not my sick baby. His nose was so bad this morning that I cursed myself for never ordering a Nosefrida from Amazon. I went to their website to check it out and used the store locator and found a pharmacy less than 2 miles from my house that carried it. I called and they had 1 in stock. Woot! I headed over within the hour.

(A brief side note on why I like small, local businesses. I called and while it took a while for the woman on the phone to figure out what I was talking about, she ultimately did confirm that they had one. I showed up about an hour later and she had put it behind the counter for me because it was the last one. And someone else had come in looking for one between my phone call and arrival and they kept it for me! Yay!)

So, the NoseFrida – the snot sucker. I must admit I have been curious about it for awhile. It seems like it might be a little gross. And to be completely honest, it is a little gross – not the using of it, but seeing the snot shoot in to the container. So, there is some tubing and a container and a mouthpiece. And a filter (so you can’t suck the snot in to your mouth). You place the container at the edge of the nostril (it has a little hole) and suck on the mouthpiece. The snot gets sucked in to the container. It is like a snot vacuum.  Which is both gross and awesome at the same time.

Spencer still is not please about having something stuck in/near his nose. There is some crying. But there is less crying. And it seems much more effective than the bulb aspirators. A lot of snot comes out and as an added bonus you can use it to vacuum up snot on his face. So, overall the Nosefrida is a win and truly a snot sucker, but I would rather not have to use it.

Disclaimer: This post was not sponsored by Nosefrida. I bought it with my own cold, hard cash. Besides, if they did sponsor this post they could probably want it to look like the one I saw that said, my baby didn’t even flinch when I used the Nosefrida instead of this one that could be summed up: Nosefrida: more snot! slightly less screaming!

You would think with as much time as toddlers spend shoving random stuff up their nose, a snot sucker wouldn’t be quite that upsetting. Hope you feel better soon Spencer!!

Spencer hasn’t really gotten that in to shoving things up his nose. He stuck his finger up there once and startled himself. And also, yay! Suzanne comment! Glad you are feeling better.
