Oranges!

We have a bunch of awesome citrus trees in our backyard. I am sure you will see tons of pictures of them over on 365Lemons, my project365 tumblog. I was taunting some friends on twitter about said oranges and today was the first day I actually got out there and take a good look at the tree.

That's a lot of oranges!

And that is only one of the trees. So, I was outside letting Spencer run around and I decided to pick some oranges. Spencer found this fascinating and he is a busy little toddler. This is what it looks like trying to pick oranges with a toddler.

Taking them out...

... and putting them back in.

End result? A big ol’ bag of soon to be juiced oranges.

Oranges! (That is a grocery sack, for scale)

And that is only 1 tree! Thank goodness one ripens slightly later than the other.

I’m so jealous! Fruit is my favorite and we don’t live in a climate to be able to grow it (or have a yard). Those look so good!

You have excellent taste my friend. Spencer is just starting to like citrus besides lemons. He has a lot of orange eating to look forward to this winter. I wish we could share!

    Jerk.

I’m coming to your house and stealing your oranges.

    AND the Lemons
and all the other crap growing.

Or I’ll trade you tasty dessert treats for citrus fruit.
    Yeah, that’s what friends do.

Just don’t steal the apples. We planted the tree instead of it already being established and we only get 2 or 3 tiny apples a year. Next year maybe we’ll get five and I can make a miniature pie.

My mother can’t comprehend that here in Virginia there’s no running out to the backyard to get a lemon off the tree. “What do you mean you paid $1.00 for one?” she asks.

That’s a lot of oranges you have there…

The price of oranges/lemons outside of California is outrageous. Oranges are like the cockroach of fruit here. Except delicious.

  5. So jealous. So. Jealous.

If I could mail oranges out of California, you would have a box a week.

Okay, they always say to roll any citrus fruit on the counter with firm pressure before you juice it to get every last drop.
From the looks of these pictures?
You can skip that step! ;)
    Yum…
The joys of living in Cali.

Oh yes, no need to roll these one bit. I have a new camera and I am still adjusting to it so I failed to snap a picture of him actually hurling the oranges across the yard.

You are a lucky woman. And I am crazy jealous of you and your prolific trees.

That is only one of the trees… I used to take oranges in to work by the basketful just to get did of them. Maybe I need to invent orange soup!
