Spencer At Two

Spencer at 2 is really a delightful, but challenging age, which is typical for a toddler I presume, but because he is mine and my only, everything is super special and wonderful. Obviously.

He is speaking in sentences now, I’m not sure when it happened. Seems like it was overnight. He is constantly referring to himself in the third person and as Boo. “Boo loves colors, all da colors” He understands that Spencer is his name, but uses Boo almost like a pronoun and always chooses it for the possessive. Things are Boo’s kitty, never Spencer’s kitty.

Favorite songs (to sing): Twinkle Twinkle, The Alphabet Song (he calls it Letter Song) and Go Bananas (from The Fresh Beat Band)

Favorite songs (to have sung to him): Puff the Magic Dragon, Barges and Old McDonald (E-I-E-I-O Song)

He likes to pick his own clothes, but since his outfit everyday pretty much consists of jeans and a t-shirt, it isn’t some miracle of cuteness and combinations, like it might be with the girl child of a vintage loving mama. He is getting to be 3T in pants and wears a range of shirts from 18M-3T. Kids clothes are so inconsistent. I put him in a pair of 9M shorts the other day and they fit fine around his tiny little waist.

Favorite colors: “all da colors”

Favorite toys: foam letters, puzzles, balls, stickers and blocks

Dislikes: Zucchini, white crayons, bedtime

He still hates going to sleep. I drive his to sleep for his nap every day, once or twice around the block and he is out and easily transferred to his crib. It saves so much time. I wish night time were as easy. We sit upstairs with a sippy of milk and cuddle and sing and cuddle and sing and it takes anywhere from 20-75 minutes to fall asleep. His current bedtime is about 10 pm.

Favorite books: Moo Baa La La La, Monster at the End of the Book, and Otis

Favorite things: American Flags, vacuums, garbage trucks and being upside-down.

What could he be so excited about in the magazine?

Pictures of vacuums. Which he then had to show our vacuum. The kid is obsessed.

Counting: He can go to 20 pretty steadily, but consistently skips seventeen.

Party tricks: if you write out B-O-O he’ll say “Boo,” then add a K and he’ll say “Book.” However, if you write just about any 3 letter word, he will say Boo.

He watches entirely too much TV, but I figure the counting and alphabet even out the dumbening. His current favorite shows are: Team UmiZoomi, Bubble Guppies, Dora, Yo Gabba Gabba and Fresh Beat Band. He has shown a theoretically interest in Mickey Mouse, but gets bored and runs off if I show him videos.

Spencer at two is charming, smart, demanding, loud, cuddle and more awesome than I could have possible imagined.

Running right towards 3.
