Small World

Spencer went to the kid orientation day at preschool today. Becasically, the kids ran around and played (my kid wasn’t the one who pushed, nope not mine ::side eye::), the parents were lectured about the rules (boo sugar! yay jesus!), informed about mandatory family chapel (suprise!) and then the parents left and the kids had a snack. He goes back for a full day of school on Thursday. By full day, I mean 3 hours.

I suppose I am supposed to be sad about it, but I’m not. He isn’t school-aged yet, so I don’t really have the aw-he’s-all-grown-ups. We are basically paying people to entertain my child so he can make some friends and I can breathe. I’m cool with that.

We enrolled Spencer in the same pre-school I attended, albeit at a much younger age. I have few memories of that time. One of them is running up a hill, playing wonder woman, with my two friends: Germy and Bloyd. I have no idea what their real names are. Of course, we assumed Jeremy and Boyd/Floyd. My mom tried to ask me once what their “real” names were by asking “What do other kids call them?” My answer was “Germy and Bloyd. Of Course.” So, the not knowing became part of my family’s lore.

Today, at orientation, one of his teachers mentioned that she had been thsre for 31 years. I said that she just missed me, because I went 33 years ago. She asked my year of high school graduation and which of the two high schools I went to in town. I answered and she said “Oh, my son Boyd went to the other school, but is your age. He does have an unsual name. He was the only one in his class.”

I about died.

My long-lost Bloyd was found. Learning his name was a little anticlimactic.

  1. I love this story! I think it’s so awesome that Spence gets to go to your old school.

Awwww Soon Spencer will have his own Germy and Bloyd :)

I hope so. There is a little blond boy named Anderson. He is like a mini Anderson Cooper.

I bet you $10 someone names their baby “Bloyd” after Googling for “kids named Boyd” and sees this post. They’ll think it’s a cooler, hipper version.

Family chapel, huh? Not like I have anything against chapel, but MANDATORY chapel would grate on me.

Maybe they’ll find “Germy and Bloyd” my defunct cafe press store. You know what my best seller was? A shirt that said “X-Ray Techs See Right Through You.”

33 years later, and the mystery is solved!
