Introducing the sponsor swap!

Hey you! Look over there —–>

New section in the sidebar: Sponsor Swap! This is a great idea from Melissa of knit purl baby. Why not just trade “ad space” with other bloggers for a little extra exposure and a fun way to find some new blogs and make some friends? I love this idea!

I’ve actually experimented a bit with taking out blog ads on some popular blogs and I’m starting to think that the return on investment just isn’t that great. From most of the ads, I received less than one page view per day, unless it was a sponsor highlight day.  And that just got me views, not subscribers/followers. Of course it could be argued that I didn’t get any subscribers because my blog sucks, but I am choosing to ignore that perspective.

It just doesn’t seem effective for something that is essentially buying page views supporting fellow bloggers. So, why not give it away for free? I would guess that some of the bloggers with 20+ blog sponsors are doing just that. This is just more transparent. This is not to say that I wouldn’t ever do blog ads, but I would prefer a company or ad network to taking on fellow bloggers as paid sponsors.

So. If you would like your button up under sponsor swap all you have to do is let me know and post my button in a similar dedicated location, a blog roll just won’t do.

(that’s a decorative button, let me know what size you need. I’m displaying 150 x 150)

See, now this I can get behind. I love promoting people I love to read, and I would love to swap sponsor buttons with you.

  3. Hi,
I love this idea. I’ve placed your button on my right side bar. I have a button on my blog (left sidebar). However, I do not know how to create the html for sharing like you have below your button on your left sidebar. How’d you do that?

I used a tutorial, not sure which one now. But this one looks about the same. Yay!
