BHBC: The Artist’s Way Toolkit

BlogHer bookclub was trying something different out this time and had some of us review the Artist’s Way Toolkit which is a subscription based website and acompaning phone/tablet app designed to coordinate with the bestselling The Artist’s Way, a book to inspire creativity in everyone. I didn’t read the book, but I did test out the service.

I found the service quite interesting and I’ve never done anything like it before. I’m not sure I gave it the full attention it deserved, but the great part about it was that I got things from what I did do. The mainĀ componentsĀ are the morning pages (which I had to do at night, but are three pages of writing every day) and artist dates.

The artist dates are time set aside for ourselves and a small challenge. My favorite was being tasked to explore a part of our city that we were unfalimoar with and then write about it. Since I’ve lived here forever, there aren’t that many places in town that are completely unfamilair (at least ones where I would feel comfortable), but I explored a small section of downtown that I hadn’t visted in ages. It was like being a tourist in my own city and super refreshing. There was another assignment about remenscing about a favorite childhood candy, but that one wasn’t very diet friendly. I was obsessed with thoughts of necco wafers for days.

The Artist’s Way Toolkit is great for minds that need some unlocking, brains stuck in a rut and will mend all sorts of head funks of the creative sort.
