Wordless Wednesday: Bodie

Bodie is a mining ghost town in the mountains of Eastern California. We visited in 2006 when attending a wedding in nearby Bridgeport. I recently unearthed some photos when cleaning up my laptop and thought I would share.

I spared you the photos in which we recreated some of the shots from the photoshoot U2 did in Bodie circa the Joshua Tree album. Also, these were taken with my very first digital camera, a teeny olympus point & shoot.

I normally put it up later in the afternoon for the early linkers, but we’re going out to run so errands so I just threw it up now instead of scheduling it.

Fantastic photos! Now I’ve got to go visit! Ever been to Hanford, California? There are some great buildings there too from the mining days…

That is super amazingly cool. Is it real? It really truly was a town at one point? I really want to go there.

It was a gold rush town that the state decided to preserve in a state of decay. It’s pretty amazing, you can look in the windows and see the stuff people just abandoned. I can make a fb album of the rest of the pictures if you want to see them. The wikipage is pretty good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodie,_California

Ooooh I love olde timey places. Growing up on the East Coast it’s all Colonial settlements or antebellum plantations. I would love to see some western living history sites.

Bodie is so awesome! We love that area- Bridgeport is such a charming little place. One of our fav drives is that 395 corridor from Northern Nevada to So Cal- so many neat places & majestic views.
