It’s a Brave giveaway!

*GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED*

I am so excited about this! I’m not going to lie, it felt pretty fancy to be watching a DVD at home the week before it was available in stores. We are huge Pixar fans, so I was delighted to be asked to host a giveaway for the Brave Ultimate Collector’s Edition DVD/Blu-Ray combo set.

I loved Brave. It reminded me a bit of old Disney, somehow it was like Black Cauldron and Anne of Green Gables mixed together, but Scottish. And maybe with a dash of the Little Mermaid. I realize this is not helpful at all. Like Toy Story, it is a story of poor choices that get progressively worse and then we all learn a lesson.

Overall, Brave is the result of Pixar sticking it’s toes in the Disney princess waters. It refreshing in that it explores the relationship between a mother and a daughter (a queen and a princess, if you will) without having an evil queen or wicked step-mother. It also doesn’t start out with a parent dying, so that is a win, too. Because the story is set in ye olden times, some of the pop culture nods that Pixar is known for is missing, but the story is sweet nonetheless.

I’m going to add a bit from the press release in case anyone wants a slightly less confusing description.

BRAVE is the gorgeous and fun film you’d expect from Disney/Pixar. Set in the ancient and magical Highlands of Scotland, the film follows the heroic journey of headstrong, young adventurer Merida. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida confronts tradition and defies an age-old custom that inadvertently unleashes chaos, and forces her to discover the true meaning of bravery.

Full disclosure: Spencer liked it, but didn’t LOVE it. To be fair, he only loves things with talking toys or, in a pinch, talking animals. He’s probably a little young. Parts of it were scary in a Fox & the Hound like scary way, not toys burning alive in an incinerator sort of way. If you have a toddler who is easily spooked, pre-screening it might be a good idea.

Giveaway time! I’ll make it easy.

1. Leave a comment stating your favorite Disney or Pixar movie for one entry.

2. Tweet the following once (and leave a separate comment with the tweet url): Enter here to win a copy of Disney/Pixar’s Brave from @babybabylemon http://bit.ly/TEqzIt

Do one. Do the other. Do both. Do neither (but then you can’t win).

NOTE: Please use a valid email address that you check to make your comment. I need to send them the winner’s address by November 12th at the latest, so I will close the giveaway in the evening on 11/10. The giveaway is open to readers in the United States and Canada. I will a select a winner from the comments using random.org

Disclosure: I received a copy of this film to review. All opinions are my own. Obviously. I don’t think we’re supposed to talk about the Black Cauldron. Brave isn’t really any thing like the Black Cauldron either, except the ye olden times part.

My mom took Madison last summer to see Brave and she cried and supposedly had ‘nightmares’ for weeks after. Then she met Merida at Dsneyland and now ‘ohh that’s my favorite movie!’ Kids. Personally I am a Beauty and the beast fan. Apparently dancing fancy silver is my soft spot.

  2. Kayla says:

I adore Brave. We actually went to see it twice. Love the atypical princess and you’ve gotta love the “appreciate your parents” theme! During one of the scary parts, Addilynn yelled, “a dinosaur!” And I had to remind her those were bears. Haha

  3. I haven’t seen Brave yet, but I have heard good things about it! Also, my favorite Pixar movie is totally Monster’s Inc. Confession – I’m trying to convince one of my sisters to use “If I Didn’t Have You” as their first dance at their wedding, because I have the most awesome choreographed routine in my head for it. So far, neither are biting. And I kind of a little bit regret not doing it at my wedding cause it’s seriously that awesome.

  4. Suz says:

I love all the old Disney ones from our childhood. But my favorite Pixar movie is definitely Monsters Inc. Love it!

  5. G K says:

    Toy Story

I love Monsters, Inc. Absolutely cannot wait for Monsters University!

  7. Leah says:

I have such troubles pinpointing my favorite Disney movie. Calder still watches my old VHS collection (including Black Cauldron! I am a completist). I love all the classic princess movies even though I am so anti-Princess everything toys and Beauty and the Beast gives me the happies. If I get drunk enough, I tend to sing all the songs from the Little Mermaid so I’d probably have to go with that.

Wait! All the animal ones too! Like Aristocats and Bambi and Dumbo and Lady & the Tramp! Except they are all waaay racist so I can’t make them a favorite.

Also, Hercules is stupid and probably should be forgotten.

I should probably just paste in the IMDB link for Disney and call it an answer.

  8. Leah says:
