Christmas Wish Lists and a KitchenAid * Keurig Giveaway (US Only)
Christmas lists – who made them when they were kids? My whole family made them every year, well in to adulthood. We aren’t a surprise people with gifts they may or may not like sort of people; we go for the known. Not to say that periodically we didn’t buy an unlisted gift, the lists were just always there hanging on the fridge for all of December – one for each of us.
My dad’s always looked like this:
- Garden Hose
- Socks (casual or dress in alternating years)
- Tie or Sweater
- Belt/Wallet/Something else practical… I think one exciting year he asked for a shovel
- More Books
- Even more books
- No sweaters
My sister’s and my mom’s lists varied the most. They thought hard every single year and curated a wish list that was super fun to shop and they were never without an outrageous (and improbable) dream item. My sister asked for uneven parallel bars and my mom asked for a KitchenAid Stand Mixer. For years. This became a longstanding family joke.
It was way out of the budget and then finally after at least 7 years of scrimping, saving and stock piling any money she got for a gift, she had enough money. She litereally squirreled cash away in a pitecher in the cabinet over the stove until she had enough. She got a white one (this was before the rainbow of fancy colors) and used it forever. My sister kept it when we sold the house ages later*; that mixer was a work horse. My cousins and aunt went in together and got me a (red!!!) KitchenAid for a wedding gift. My mom laughed and said, “Well. That was sure easier than how I got mine.”
*Edited to add: I couldn’t remember if my sister still had the mixer or not, hence the awkward phrasing. I thought she might have given it away during her Michigan – NYC – San Francisco moves. I got an email and she did give it away to her friend Wendy, who I stole and made my friend too. That KitchenAid was used to make 2 pumpkin pies yesterday, which is the coolest thing ever.
So. Here’s the deal. How would you like your very own KitchenAid mixer to keep (or giveaway for an amazing gift) this holiday season? Just enter below.
