Just Finished: A Good American {A BlogHer Book Club Review}

Sorry, not sorry if I have been overloading people with book posts lately. So many great books from BlogHer Book Club recently!

I love it when I finish a book and can immediately think of who I want to lend it to. It is such a nice added bonus. A Good American by Alex George is a classic coming to America tale. Frederik and Jette head from Germany to America at the turn of the twentieth century and settle in to Missouri via New Orleans. The book tracks the family over the following decades and is told from the narrative perspective of their grandchild.

A Good American definitely had a clear familial arc, taking through three generations (and beyond), but there were some surprises in there too.  Also, Alex George wove music through the book and it plays such a significant role it is almost like a member of the family. I tore threw the book in just three days, I probably could have read it faster but parenting got in the way.

I’m really looking forward to the book club discussions on this one, there is so much to talk about. It might be tricky to do it in a public, spoiler free forum. This would be a great selection for an in-person book club.

This is a paid review for BlogHer Book Club but the opinions expressed are my own.
