Red, White and Blueberry Brownie Bar

For a fourth of July dessert, pretty much everybody goes one of two ways: red white and blue or apple pie. When asked to bring dessert to an Independence Day cookout this year, I went with what I had and ended up with a red, white and blueberry brownie bar. Not the most original idea in the world, but my sister gave me star bowls forever ago and I think it turned out cute:

This ended up being all about presentation, I used a boxed brownie mix (the horror!), freshly whipped whipping cream with a splash of vanilla, blueberries and sliced local strawberries. I went not being late over capturing the perfect photo. I sort of like the filtered instagram photo the best.

Patriotic Dessert

Hope everyone stayed safe and had a great 4th. And since I oh so helpfully posted this on July 5th, maybe you could make it next year. Or for a different patriotic holiday.

The star bowls can be found at Crate and Barrel and are a bargain at $2 each. I am pretty sure they are the same bowls, but mine are from about 5 years ago.
