Thanksgiving Menu
It’s hard to figure out a menu for just our small family for Thanksgiving. It never seems worth it to cook the whole shebang, but when things are left out, they invariably end up being the dishes most missed. The worst was the year I decided to make roasted potatoes instead of mashed. Not the same, not the same at all. I think I ended up making some mashed potatoes on Friday just to go with the leftovers.
My menu for this year, barring any last minute changes, will be:
Dry brined and roasted turkey breast
Stuffing of an undecided variety
Mashed potatoes (#teamnomixer)
Caramelized onion gravy, a delicious relic from my vegetarian college days
Cranberry sauce, from a can because that’s how my husband likes it and he’s the only one who cares
Crescent rolls, husband’s family tradition and we did dinner rolls last year for me
Salad with homemade croutons and goat cheese
Apple crisp (I am so bad at pie, luckily my husband likes these just as much)
Maybe a dessert with chocolate per the kids request
Wine and sparkling wine for the grown ups and “fizzy apple juice” per Spencer’s request. Always Martinelli’s, it must be a California thing. Anything else just seems wrong.
This menu is so simple and boring – why post it? 1. NaBloPoMo and 2. Sometimes it’s nice to know you aren’t the only plain or simple thanksgiving in the sea of social media thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving!
