Delicious and Easy Creamy Whipped Greek Yogurt Recipe

Indulge in this refreshing and light summer Greek Yogurt that’s perfect for hot days!

When the mercury rises and you can’t bear the thought of turning on your oven, this creamy whipped Greek yogurt comes to the rescue. It’s a clever fusion of airy whipped cream and tangy Greek yogurt, resulting in a dessert that’s both satisfying and refreshing.

This heavenly concoction offers the best of both worlds. The Greek yogurt provides substance and a delightful tang, creating a texture that’s reminiscent of a luscious pudding-mousse hybrid. Meanwhile, the whipped cream adds a light, airy quality and tempers the yogurt’s acidity, transforming it into a true dessert experience.

Secrets to Perfecting Your Whipped Greek Yogurt

The key to success lies in using authentic Greek yogurt. Look for brands that list only milk and active cultures in their ingredients (Fage is an excellent choice). Avoid yogurts containing gums, gelatin, or pectin, as these artificial thickeners won’t whip up properly. Regular yogurt won’t work either – you need the low-moisture content of Greek yogurt to achieve that perfect, fluffy texture.

Feel free to experiment with sweeteners! While sugar works well, try alternatives like sorghum, maple syrup, honey, or treacle for unique flavor profiles. Golden syrup is a personal favorite, as its rich caramel notes beautifully complement the yogurt’s freshness. For an aromatic twist, consider adding vanilla bean seeds or a splash of rosewater.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity: just combine the ingredients in a bowl and whip until thick and dreamy!

Versatile Ways to Enjoy Your Whipped Greek Yogurt

This versatile treat can be enjoyed immediately as a topping for French toast or waffles, embracing the breakfast-for-dessert trend. Or, let it chill overnight in the fridge for a parfait-like consistency.

If you’re in the mood for baking, whipped Greek yogurt pairs beautifully with angel food cake, blueberry pie, or sour cream pound cake. It’s also the perfect companion for delicate fresh fruits that don’t hold up well to cooking. Add a sprinkle of toasted nuts for a delightful crunch!

Craving something cooler? Use it as a healthier alternative to ice cream or frozen yogurt. For a decadent brunch option, layer it with crispy granola for a texture explosion.

Creamy Whipped Greek Yogurt Recipe

  • 8 ounces plain Greek yogurt (about 1 cup; 225g), any percentage will do (see note)
  • 6 ounces heavy cream (about 3/4 cup; 170g)
  • 2 ounces golden syrup, sorghum syrup, honey, or maple syrup (about 3 tablespoons; 55g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon rosewater or vanilla extract, or seeds from 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
  • Pinch of salt

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, combine Greek yogurt, cream, your chosen sweetener, rosewater or vanilla, and a pinch of salt.Begin mixing at low speed, then gradually increase to high. Whip the mixture until it becomes thick and stiff, which should take about 5 minutes. Your whipped Greek yogurt is now ready to enjoy! Serve immediately as a soft, whipped cream-like topping, or for a parfait-style dessert, divide into serving dishes and refrigerate until it reaches a thicker consistency (around 45°F/7°C).

For best results, choose Greek yogurt that contains only milk and active cultures (like Fage). Avoid brands with added thickeners such as gum, gelatin, or pectin. Regular or unstrained yogurts won’t achieve the same light and thick texture when whipped.
